Questions

FAQs

Are you based in New York?

No. Our office is in Marlton, New Jersey, about ninety minutes from Midtown Manhattan. Day-to-day work with New York clients is remote, by video and phone, and we come into the city when a project warrants it. You get a USA-based team on Eastern time who can be in your office when it matters, without New York agency rates.

How much does custom software cost?

Costs are driven by scope, complexity and integrations, so we quote each project individually after the consultation. As a guide, business websites typically start in the low five figures, eCommerce stores from the mid five figures, and custom applications vary widely with the number of user roles, workflows and integrations. Well-defined projects are quoted at a fixed price with milestone payments; ongoing development and projects whose requirements will evolve are billed hourly or monthly. Every proposal breaks the cost down by phase so you can see where the budget goes, and the first consultation is free.

How long does a project take?

It depends on scope. We usually deliver a content-managed business website in two to three weeks, an eCommerce store in four to five weeks, and a custom web or mobile application in four to six weeks. We give a specific timeline in every proposal and report progress against it weekly. After discovery and design, development runs in sprints of one to two weeks, each ending with a demo on a staging environment you can test, so you see working software early and can adjust priorities as the project progresses.

Can you take over software that someone else built?

Yes. A large share of our work starts with someone else's code. We begin with a code and infrastructure review, document what we find, stabilise anything urgent and then plan improvements in priority order. You do not have to rebuild from scratch to get reliable support. We work in the stacks most business systems are built on, including .NET, PHP, Java, Python, WordPress, nopCommerce and Magento, and once we have taken over, you call people who already know your setup when something needs fixing.

Who owns the code when the project is done?

You do. On final payment, all custom code, designs and documentation produced for your project are assigned to you. Third-party libraries and platforms remain under their own licences, which we identify in the proposal. If we host the application, it runs on Azure, AWS or a managed host under your account, so you also keep ownership of the hosting accounts and data. That leaves the choice of what happens after launch with you: keep working with us, bring development in-house, or hand the code to another team.

Can you work with our in-house team or existing vendors?

Yes. We can work from designs your own team provides, take over code another vendor started, or add capacity to your in-house team: a dedicated developer works on your projects for an agreed number of hours per month, managed by us but directed by you. You get a single US-based point of contact who is accountable for delivery, access to a staging environment and a shared task board, and a weekly status update, so your team and other vendors always know what is in progress.
